About
One person, one city, one small company that publishes the result
Everything a reader might reasonably want to check about who is behind these pages, on one page, without a form to fill in first.
The journal
Ward and Alley is a walking journal about the Washington that is not on the postcards. It began in 2022 as a set of routes written down so they could be repeated, and it has stayed that shape.
Perrin Teague writes it, edits it and does the walking. Nobody is on staff, nothing arrives from a wire, and no other writer files here. Where a reader's tip turned into a route, the piece names the reader.
The name and the address
The journal is read at mydomainetravel.com, which is an address rather than a title. In its older sense a domaine is the ground a grower actually works and knows, rather than the ground on a deed. That is the idea the journal runs on: a patch of city, covered on foot until it is genuinely known.
The masthead is Ward and Alley. Washington is administratively a set of wards and physically a grid of blocks with service lanes cut through them, and those two words describe the subject better than the address does.
This journal is not connected to, endorsed by or associated with any other publication whose name resembles this web address. We do not name it here, because printing somebody else's masthead to say you are not them is still printing somebody else's masthead. If you arrived expecting a different publication, this is not it.
What this journal will not do
- No landmarks and no photographed middle. Stated on the front page as the frame of the whole thing.
- No politics. There is a great deal of it in this city and none of it in these pages.
- No affiliation with any public body. We hold none, we claim none, and no page here should be read as speaking for anybody official.
- No reviews, ratings, rankings or stars. We describe ground. Judging restaurants is somebody else's trade.
- No sponsored walks. A route is never in these pages because somebody paid for it to be.
- No selling. There is no shop, no booking desk and no price anywhere on this site. The one commercial thing is the flight search, and it says so on its own page.
The person
Perrin Teague has walked in this city for long enough to have opinions about pavement and no interest in defending them. Bylines are not used inside the pieces because there is only one of us, and a byline on every page would be a decoration rather than information.
Photographs are made for this journal. None of them are stock, none are drawn, and the disclaimer says what that means in practice.

The District file number is left off this page on purpose. Those numbers are handed out in one continuous run, so a number invented to look convincing will already be somebody else's, and printing it would borrow a stranger's registration.
The web address is five years older than the first issue. It was bought second hand, and no page on this site claims the journal has been running since the address was registered.
