Independence
What this journal is, and the four things it is not
Updated 5 August 2026. Short page, because independence is easier to describe than to defend and this one is genuinely simple.
Not affiliated with anybody
Ward and Alley is published by Ward and Alley Editions LLC and by nobody else. It holds no affiliation with, endorsement from or sponsorship by any public body, any transport operator, any airline, any hotel, any tourism office or any other publication.
It also has no connection to any other publication whose name resembles this web address. That is said here and on the about page, and it is said without naming anybody, because printing another masthead to deny it is still printing it.
Not a seller
You cannot buy anything from this journal. No shop exists, no booking desk, no ticket, no membership, and no page carries a price. Questions about payment, refunds, cancellation and delivery therefore have no subject matter here, which the terms settle in a clause of their own instead of leaving readers to work it out.
The single exception is the flight desk on the front page, which hands a route to a separate travel search company. If a reader books after searching there, that company may pay this journal a commission. It changes no fare and costs the reader nothing, and the terms sit beside the desk itself rather than in this footnote. The flight search page carries the long account.
Not an authority on the ground
Every walk describes what one person found on one day. Paths flood, gates get locked, blocks get rebuilt and bridges close for repair. A piece is honest about the date it was walked precisely because it cannot be honest about tomorrow.
Nothing here is a safety assessment. Judge the weather, the light and your own footing on the day, and turn around when a route stops being sensible. If you find that something has changed, write to alley@mydomainetravel.com and it will be corrected in print.
Not made of anybody else's work
- Words are written for this journal. Where somebody else is quoted, they are quoted plainly and named.
- Photographs are generated for this journal. They are not stock, not drawn, not composited, and none of them stands in for a place other than the kind of ground the piece describes.
- The mark in the masthead is an alley gate drawn in code for this site.
- Nothing is loaded from another company on any page of this site, the front page included. The desk is our markup and its suggestions come from our own file.
Reusing what is here
Quote a paragraph with attribution and a link and nobody will mind. For a whole piece or a photograph, write to alley@mydomainetravel.com and ask; the answer is usually yes, in writing, with a condition or two about attribution.
